MetroStar Announces IRIS Now Awardable on Tradewinds Solutions Marketplace

RESTON, VA — Tues., Jan. 13, 2025 — MetroStar, a leading provider of AI-enabled solutions to the federal government, today announced that its Integrated Respirator Information System (IRIS), developed in collaboration with ActionStreamer, has achieved “Awardable” status in the CDAO’s (Chief Digital and AI Office) Tradewinds Solutions Marketplace. This designation allows any eligible U.S. government customer to award a contract for IRIS without further competitive procurement, opening a streamlined path for deployment across U.S. Air Force (USAF) and Department of War (DoW) operations.

IRIS is purpose-built for maintainers working in hazardous, confined aircraft environments. It is currently deployed for fuel-tank maintenance on KC-135 and C-130 aircraft under the oversight of MetroStar and the delivery expertise of ActionStreamer. The system integrates full-face respirators, high-definition cameras, two-way secure communication and enterprise connectivity so that real-time visibility and expert collaboration replace dated methods of tapping signals and isolated workflows.

The system has earned Intrinsically Safe certification from Underwriters Laboratories, validating its safe operation in explosive atmospheres. The development of IRIS originated with the Air Force fuel-maintenance community and progressed through the USAF Spark Tank innovation pipeline to a field-ready capability. In evaluated operations, IRIS is projected to save over 35,000 labor hours each year, reduce sustainment costs by approximately $15 million and deliver more than 7,000 additional mission-ready aircraft days.

Awardable status in the Tradewinds Solutions Marketplace confirms that IRIS meets rigorous evaluation criteria for innovation impact, scalability and mission relevance. Government contracting officers may now proceed to award contracts for IRIS through the approved acquisition vehicle, further enabling fielding of the capability at pace.
