MetroStar Supports Local Nonprofit Rainbow Families with Pride Fundraiser

Written by Rachel Teter | 06/22/2022

RESTON, VA—As the DC heat turned up, so did MetroStar's summer fundraisers. MetroStar's Collaborative Action of Responsible Employees for Society (CARES) program hosted a June fundraiser to raise funds for Rainbow Families, a local DC nonprofit dedicated to supporting, educating, and connecting LGBTQ+ families, parents, and prospective parents.

MetroStar's CARES program is hyper-focused on supporting local communities where employees live and work and has three primary groups: Health & Humanitarian, Education & Communities, and Hometown Heroes.

Allison Turi, MetroStar's Principal Designer and CARES Coordinator, designed a Pride care package for MetroStar employees to thank them for their donation to Rainbow Families. The kit included stickers, keychains, pins, and more. All donations made during the fundraiser were directly sent to the nonprofit, similar to MetroStar's T-Shirt campaign held last year.

"CARES provides our people with the opportunity to make impacts nationally and locally. We have it structured to support the communities close to us, which is why involvement with nonprofits that our people are passionate about is vital," said Turi. "We are proud to support Rainbow Families and their work."

Liz Dean, a Project Manager at MetroStar and Host of Mock IT, is the President of Rainbow Families and connected MetroStar with this dynamic nonprofit.

"We're thrilled with MetroStar's continued relationship with our nonprofit, and we are honored to be the 2022 recipient of MetroStar's CARES Program Pride Fundraiser," said Dean. "As a small (but mighty!) grassroots organization, we educate, support, and empower LGBTQ+ families in the DMV [DC, Maryland, Virginia region] and beyond."

Donations help advance ongoing participation in the organization's programs and events. Many Rainbow Families' members participate in their cornerstone program, Maybe Baby. Dating back to 1982, this proven, multi-week course is designed for prospective LGBTQ+ parents interested in learning more about the options for building a family.

"As our members form and grow their families, Rainbow Families sponsors various support groups and hosts picnics, playdates, and Pride-centered activities, among other community-building events, for all to enjoy," Dean said. "The contributions made to Rainbow Families through MetroStar's fundraiser directly impact our members by providing much-needed financial assistance for people to attend our conference, Maybe Baby or other programs – who might otherwise not be able to attend."
