Helping Veterans Transition into the Workforce: MetroStar's Collaboration with SkillBridge

Written By: Johnnie Wade

Reston, VA – Tuesday, Feb.13, 2024 – MetroStar announces partnership with SkillBridge to help veterans successfully transition into the workforce. The journey from being in uniformed military service to having a civilian career can be complex, but SkillBridge lessens the challenges that come with that path.

The United States Department of Defense's SkillBridge program empowers service members to acquire valuable work experience and training. The program partners with private firms and facilitates internships, apprenticeships, and job training programs.

For veterans who have dedicated their lives to serving their nation, transitioning into the workforce is not just about securing a job but an integration of identities, values, and skills. Organizations like MetroStar and programs like SkillBridge help bridge the gap with opportunities, training, and support.

SkillBridge allows service members to begin training for their next career as much as 180 days before their enlistment ends. This lead time is crucial in ensuring a smooth and effective transition.

MetroStar recognizes the value of veterans' experience and dedication. “The support for veterans extends beyond the mere placement into an internship. MetroStar works directly with Hiring Our Heroes to offer additional professional development opportunities,” said Andy Gill, MetroStar’s Strategic Talent Acquisition Lead. “These initiatives blend hard and soft skill enhancement, focusing on communication, project management, and technology—vital skills for today's workforce.”

The partnership between MetroStar and SkillBridge is an evolving narrative that celebrates veterans' impact at every stage of workforce integration.

“As we look toward the future, the goal remains clear: to provide a supportive and enriching environment for veterans to thrive,” said Gill. “MetroStar's dedication to this cause gives hope that the future workforce will genuinely reflect and value the diversity of skills and experiences that veterans bring.”
