MetroStar Recognized for Award Winning IT Training Program

Written By: Rachel Teter

Reston, VAMetroStar's focus on our training and Upskilling program has helped retain our employees, improve their job satisfaction, and has earned us a spot on IDG’s Best Places to Work for ten years

"Investing in training can help your employees envision growth in your organization, which in turn helps improve retention rates and job satisfaction. In fact, training and skills development has a major impact on employee satisfaction, with 91 percent of IT pros listing it as a top factor on IDG’s Best Places to Work in IT report," wrote Senior Writer, Sarah K. White in her feature on MetroStar.

Through the Individual Career Development Program (ICDP), MetroStar spends on average $2,049 per person training our people. This training helps our employees grow within and beyond the roles, they were hired to perform, like learning how to design for climate change.

Debbie Peterson, MetroStar's Senior Vice President of People and Culture, helps MetroStar continue to invest in training to not only benefit our people but the organization as well.

“When it comes to top talent, [the training] does help us retain them because they have a pathway and resources to help them grow their career. I also think that it helps folks understand that they can take a lot of different paths [in the company],”  said Peterson.

MetroStar approaches training in multiple ways:

  • MetroStar University (MSU): Our in-house learning management system offers course-based training and helps professionals obtain certifications directly through the platform. We have a dedicated MSU Learning Manager who helps coach and mentor our people through their learning process.

  • ICDP: Our Individual Career Development Program allows our people to earn certifications, broaden their skillsets, and take continuing education courses they're interested in pursuing.

  • Upskilling Program: MetroStar's Client Solutions Group (CSG) hosts a 10-week Upskilling Program that focuses on teaching our people niche and innovative technologies in areas like artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), data science,  DevSecOps engineering, UI (user interface), and UX (user experience).
